About This Portfolio

These images are conceived as black and white when photographed, but are entirely digitally created. They follow the tradition of the great black and white photographers — Minor White, Lewis Hine, Paul Strand, Brett Weston — who often made imagery showing complex details that border on abstraction. Many feature mechanical objects, gears, chains and shadows; a companion portfolio in color, Tension & Release, explores similar territory in abstraction.

All images are digital capture made with Sony mirrorless cameras using fixed legacy lenses from 1952–2005, several custom adapted for this purpose. All prints are archival pigment on rag papers.

All images are available for purchase · prices range from $300 to $3,000 depending on size and edition · inquire or call 415-509-5388
