Natural Forces
In this ongoing body of work, I am exploring natural forces that impact and shape planet Earth’s evolution. The element of Water is the primary focus of this exhibition in Bolinas. Other elements explored in this series are Wind, Gravity, Heat, Cold and the impact of Time (see Hour Glass, Salt Sea).
I am also interested in how life has arisen and adapted in response to these forces (see Will to Life). This includes human kind as part of the natural environment and considers how we have created and adapted technology to work with the elements and forces of nature (Box of Rain, Balancing Point, Disappearing Tracks).
The primary truth revealed to me in the process of making this series is that the universe, the earth, plant and animal life is dynamically interconnected and sculpted by specific physical forces. The unfolding of this realization has led me to a basic question: If we have reverence and respect for being human and for being alive, then shouldn’t we have the same reverence for all life and the earth? After all, everything is part of the same continuum. These images offer glimpses into the grand spectrum of the evolving universe by focusing in on essential elements.
